China's SZ DJI Technology Co., touted as the world's largest consumer drone maker, is eyeing to open its flagship store next month as the market for commercial drone goes mainstream and continues to attract consumers.
The retail store, which has a floor space of about 800 square meters, will be located in a Shenzhen shopping center. Upon establishment, it will be the firm's biggest retail investment anywhere in the world.
The company did not disclose the price of the investment.
The store will feature all its gadgets and products, including high-end and entry-level drones. Inspire 1, its high-end professional drone, can be bought for more than $4,000, depending on its features and type of camera. Meanwhile, its most affordable drone, the Phantom 2, will cost about $500.
Along with the expansion of the consumer drone market worldwide, competition among industry players has also intensified. Rival firms have also been offering low-cost products.
In a statement from a DJI spokesman, the firm plans to work on more flagship retail stores across the globe. However, the official pointed out that there are no specific plans yet as of the moment.
Though DJI is a Chinese firm, its sales are mostly generated from its overseas market such as the U.S. Analysts have agreed that in China, the drone market is still young.
The firm added that one of the goals of its Shenzhen flagship store is to get more consumers who will be interested in their products.
"We want more people to see and touch our products," a spokesman from the drone maker said.
