Apple could be working on an official Apple Watch charging dock, based on leaked photos from a German blog that show a round smartwatch charging station. The round device with a built-in magnetic charging puck looks like a CD player. There seem to be two methods for juicing up the wrist wearable: lying flat on the white pad, and upright via the new watchOS 2 "nightstand mode."
The photo also shows a Lightning cable, according to The Verge. It can be plugged into the Apple Watch charging dock.
The magnetic charging dock's resting surface material is unclear in the photos. However, it is likely made of silicone.
Apple has not officially announced that it is developing a dock for charging. However, the photos could be valid. If they are, it could be deduced that the release date is probably near.
The product would likely have a $100 price tag based on a sticker seen on the box, according to 9to5Mac. That is quite steep compared to other charging docks offered at Best Buy, Amazon, and Apple Stores.
In the past Apple has designed many accessories for its products, including its nearly $170 iPad Pro Smart Keyboard. Thus, industry experts are surprised that the company has not released an official Apple Watch charging dock yet.
The company sold one million Apple Watch units during the first day of pre-orders. Although it has not released exact sales figures, experts have estimated that Apple sold 1.7 billion units by the end of September, based on figures the company has released to the public.
