The Houston Rockets is planning to move Ty Lawson to the bench, and speculations has started to swirl that the former Denver Nuggets point guard could be on the trading block amid the team's poor start in the 2015-2016 season.
The Rockets have made a shocking change in their coaching staff amid a poor start in the season, firing former coach Kevin McHale.
In line with McHale's exit, the Rockets are trying to shake up their lineup
with minor changes as interim coach JB Bickerstaff opting to start Terry over Lawson, according to Real GM.
Bickerstaff said that the move was not to blame Lawson, but rather to get him play his style of game more.
However, Lawson coming off the bench and not playing well alongside James Harden could be a hint for a possible mid-season trade, especially with how the Rockets are performing poorly early in the season.
A trade for Memphis Grizzlies point guard Mike Conley has been proposed by fans via NBA Trade Rumors.
In the trade scenario, the Grizzlies will get Lawson and Trevor Ariza, while the Rockets receive Conley.
Lawson going to the Grizzlies would give him a fresh start to reassess his position as a scoring point guard. His averages of 8.3 points and 5.3 assists per game on 34.9 minutes are far below his career averages (14.1 points, 6.6 assists on 31.2 minutes).
Conley, on the other hand, would provide the Rockets a crafty playmaker who could fit well with Houston's basketball style. In his 12 games with the Grizzlies, Conley averaged 13.9 points and 6.8 assists.
The Rockets will surely try their new form of lineup first and see if they could get a new head coach that can put the franchise back in its winning ways, making the trade unlikely at the moment.
However, if both teams continue to struggle midway through the season, Lawson and Conley could be pieces worth to explore with.
