"Star Trek" fans can rejoice as the latest installment of the franchise. "Star Trek 3" is all set to be released on July 8, 2016 in the United States as confirmed by Paramount Pictures. The release will be exactly on the 50th anniversary of the first "Star Trek" movie, which had William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy as Kirk and First Officer Spock respectively.
There was a lot of speculation about who would direct "Star Trek 3" but it has now been confirmed that it is going to be directed by none other than Justin Lin, who is the acclaimed director of "Fast and Furious." The latest movie will add to the franchise who have managed to rake in more than $1 billion in revenue since 1979 in the US alone.
The earlier movies of the franchise were made under the capable direction of J. J. Abrams, who is also the creator of the critically acclaimed shoe "Lost." However, by bringing a new director on to the project, the producers apparently want to keep the franchise fresh and relevant to the time.
Lin is presently involved in directing some episodes of the HBO show "True Lies." After finishing that, he was supposed to direct a brand-new Bourne film with actor Jeremy Renner, but the proposal seems to have been postponed for the time being, due to the new Star Trek job. He has managed to revive the "Fast and Furious" series with a stellar job of directing the fourth movie in the franchise, which brought him into the notice of the Star Trek makers.
