Day one discussed key changes on the COC Shield and day two touch on the Village Guard, which is the focus of this story.

In a new post on Supercell official forum, Anoushka formally introduced the Village Guard concept that mainly is "a short-term way to prevent attacks on your village while your shield is down." Touch Arcade views the new feature as Supercell's way of arming COC players for optimal maneuvers while inside the game.

It may appear that Village Guard or VG is but a Shield extension but as Anoushka explains: "They are used different ways. Village Guard is intended to support active play time, while Shield is intended to provide opportunities for downtime from the game."

As YouTuber ClashOnGan said in a new video, VG will give two main benefits for Clashers - a potent Shield buffer and quality of life improvements, which apply in and out of the Clash of Clans.

So here are the exciting things that make Village Guard a game-changer add-on to COC:

Almost always online

The Village Guard intro has been touted by Supercell as part of its quality of life changes to COC, which Anoushka confirmed by stating that VG when activated will assume that a player is online most of the time. VG is directly connected to Personal Break or the time that a Clasher is not actively engaged in COC.

Extended Personal Break

A player is allotted up to three hours of Personal Break, which can be extended by another two hours thanks to the Village Guard that can be bought from the COC Shop for only 10 Gems. Essentially, Clashers can access maximum of 5-hour Village Guard protection that affords them not only gameplay maneuvers but also breathing space when needed.

Free VG protection when COC Shield expires

As mentioned, Clashers can choose to purchase Village Guard protection though Anoushka has underscored that VG is basically free. It is triggered automatically when the game Shield down but Supercell notes that the VG allowance differs on each player - the more advanced gets to enjoy the longer protection as listed below:

  •  Champion I League players and below get a free 15-minute Village Guard when their shield expires
  •  Titan III League players get a free 1-hour Village Guard when their shield expires
  •  Titan II League players get a free 2-hour Village Guard when their shield expires
  •  Titan I and Legend League players get a free 3-hour Village Guard when their shield expires

Mercy Rule

Village Guard also kicks in in the aftermath of what Supercell described as Weak Attacks that resulted to less than 30% of damage. If the same break is followed by two consecutive lull periods, the Personal Break timer is reset that translates up to 3 more hours of VG protection. This is under the new concept of Mercy Rule that will be introduced with Village Guard, Anoushka said.

But the Supercell staff also noted that no attacks in a 3-hour span will reset a Clasher's Personal Break but not the VG timer. And while Server Maintenance will pause all activities, the VG clock including, protection will resume to the last recorded state when game maintenance activities end.

Miscellaneous

Other changes connected to Village Guard on Level 11 Town Hall are the following: Forced Breaks after three hours cumulative game time, attacks while Village Guard is on will merit no penalty and VG can be switched off two ways - users can dismiss the protection anytime or by buying Shield on the COC shop.
