Pebble recently announced that it is releasing a new beta feature for the Pebble Time smartwatch. The new feature dubbed Text Reply will allow iPhone users to send voice or preset replies to received text messages.
Pebble posted the announcement on its official website and it reads, "Starting today, Pebblers in the U.S. on a post-paid AT&T account can test drive iOS Text Reply using their Pebble Time, Time Steel, or Time Round."
Pebble added that it is also expanding the voice capability feature of its smartwatches, especially for the iOS platform. The company said that it is currently working to support additional carriers in order to bring the new feature to more users. The company did not provide a timeline regarding when it plans to incorporate other networks into the fold.
According to Apple Insider, iPhone owners need to upgrade their Pebble Time app to version 3.4 to qualify for the Text Reply update. After updating their mobile app, they need to use that and update the smartwatch's firmware version 3.7. Once the smartwatch is update, the Text Reply option will be activated under the Actionable Notifications tab.
Aside from integrating the new Text Reply feature. The version 3.7 firmware will also fix some bugs and bring in stability improvements.
Pebble said that messages sent using the Text Reply feature will not appear on the iOS Messages app since they are being sent directly through AT&T. The feature will also not work with group messages.
Pebble claims that it is the first non-Apple smartwatch manufacturer to offer voice and text replies for the iPhone device.
