New York Knicks power forward Derrick Williams is reportedly frustrated with the team for having limited minutes during game times and rumors are swirling around the league that he could be headed elsewhere before the deadline.
Williams, who was selected 2nd overall in the 2011 draft, was brought into the Big Apple because of his ability to provide a spark on a team's offense, which the Kicks needed prior to the 2015-2016 NBA regular season.
In the Knicks' preseason campaign, Williams was one of the team's top scorer and carried his momentum over the opener, dropping 24 points against the Milwaukee Bucks.
However, as the season goes on and the unexpected fast development of rookie Kristaps Porzingis, Williams' minutes continue to decrease.
Compared to his 19.8 minutes average during his stint with the Sacramento Kings, Williams is only having 12.1 minutes a game with the Knicks.
On Wednesday's loss over the Orlando Magic, he received his first DNP under coach Derek Fisher, making him frustrated of not being able to contribute for the Knicks.
"I want to get out there and play," Williams said, reports the NY Daily News. "Like I said, you can't really control that. That's up to the coaching staff. At the same time it does get frustrating when I know I can help."
This type of situation often leads to a player being moved to another team like the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers seems to be a good fit for Williams as the team needs any type of help they could to salvage their potentially doomed season.
Williams could bring athleticism to a lackluster frontcourt and stretch the defense with his three-point shooting. He would also be a decent backup at the four position behind Julius Randle.
According to Real GM trade checker, a straight swap for Nick Young is possible.
The Knicks' are struggling shooting behind the three-point line and Young could certainly solve that problem using his 41.3 shooting beyond the arc.
Young would also be an upgrade in the Knicks' second unit and could take off some minutes from Carmelo Anthony.
The Knicks have yet to confirm any trade involving Williams, but being unhappy with his minutes could put him on the trading block this season.
