Francis Lawrence's "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part II," Peter Sohn's "The Good Dinosaur," and Ryan Coogler's "Creed" were the top three films at the box office on Black Friday.
On Nov. 27, Friday, "Mockingjay - Part II," the final installment of the "The Hunger Games" film franchise, topped the box office, with an estimated gross of $21 million, according Box Office Mojo. The animated film "The Good Dinosaur" ranked second with an estimated gross of $15.7 million while sitting at the third spot was the sports drama film "Creed," grossing an estimated $11.7 million.
The $21 million estimated gross of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part II" was a boost to its total box office gross. Following its release on Nov. 20, the film has got an estimated domestic gross of $167.96 million an estimated $205 million from other countries, for a total of $372.96 million on a global scale.
Sohn's "The Good Dinosaur" was released on Nov. 25 and opened in about 3,749 theaters. The animated film has grossed $32 million, which gets closer to the projected gross of $55 million in five days. It also suggests that the audience liked the film, as critics gave the film an A rating, according to Cinema Score.
"Creed" got an estimated domestic gross of $24.2 million after its release to 3,404 theaters on Nov. 27, Friday. Its Black Friday gross places the "Rocky Balboa" spin-off film at par with the projected gross of $40 million in five days. Just like "The Good Dinosaur," "Creed" also received an A grade from Cinema Score.
"The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part II," "The Good Dinosaur" and "Creed" are still showing in theaters.
