Kansas Police arrested on Wednesday 44-year-old Michael Jones of Wyandotte County. Besides being charged with battery and assault on his wife, he was also charged with torturing or cruelly beating his 7-year-old son between May 1 and Sept. 28.
The New York Daily News reports that investigators fear that Jones killed his son, one of his eight children, and fed him to pigs. After the assault of his wife, Jones fired a gun at her.
According to Michael Williams, brother of Jones' wife, he has heard of mental and physical abuse during the nine years that the couple had been together. He discloses that their house has bullet holes which indicates the terror that members of the family go through.
The police also received a tip from former babysitters of the family who contacted the Kansas Department for Children and Families over concern for the kids' welfare. Neighbors told the police who returned on Thursday to probe further that one of the children disappeared a few months ago.
Authorities found human remains on the barn of the Jones property which neighbors described as filthy with trash and dried food all over the house. Police believe the human remains is likely that of the son which could have been fed to livestock. However, they have not yet identified the remains.
But the seven other children are now in protective custody and safe. Jones is scheduled to appear on Monday at the Wyandotte County District Court. NBC reports that Jones is held on a $10 million bond.
