"Black Widow" hit maker Iggy Azalea is no stranger to award show disses targeted at her. The former protege of T.I. recently made headlines when "On & On" hit maker Erykah Badu took shots at her at the 2015 Soul Train Awards held on Nov. 29, Sunday.
Badu was serving as the host of the event when she set up the diss by first making fun of herself. She launched into a monologue mocking the fact that rap music is usually excluded from the awards show, despite the popular belief that it honours R&B music.
But the tongue-in-cheek act quickly turned into a dig at the Australian rapper. Badu faked a phone call and pretended to be in a conversation with the "Fancy" hit maker as if the latter was seeking her permission to come to the event.
"You can come because what you're doing is definitely not rap," ET quoted the 48-year-old rapper as saying. This left the audience visibly shocked at the comment.
The barbed comment also prompted a series of memes on Twitter later that evening, although Azalea herself has yet to respond on the matter. Many online commentators slammed Badu and accused her for being out of the line while dissing the 25-year-old rapper.
"Life would be wonderful if women celebrated each other instead of emulating garbage like @fatbellybella You have my support @IGGYAZALEA," tweeted one of the internet user to whom Badu responded with a tweet, "Kill joy."
Azalea is often targeted apparently for being the only white female rapper. During the 2014 BET Awards, Nicki Minaj had notoriously thrown shade at her that she did not write her own songs. According to Hollywood Life, "Sportscenter" anchor Robert Flores also accused Azalea of trying to kill hip hop.
