The Stockholm Schools Youth Clinic is giving away a specially designed tape to use for measuring the circumference, or how thick is the male genital. That's because many men buy condoms basing their purchasing decision on the length of their penis and not the girth.
This has resulted in a situation when the condom slips off or breaks during intercourse because of wrong size. The rubber comes off when the size purchased is too large, while it breaks off when the condom is too small for the erect manhood.
Eddie Sandstrom, nurse of the clinic, advises men to use the special tape before buying condoms. "You have to measure the circumference of the penis when erect, not the length. On our measuring tape you get the measurement in millimeters and a few recommendations for condom types that are suitable," explains Sandstrom.
After knowing their girth, the clinic would provide men with free condoms for penises with circumference of 2 to 2 ½ inches or 50.8 to 63.5 millimeters.
The need for proper use of condom seeks to address the rise in gonorrhea infection and chlamydia cases that have been observed to be going up in Sweden, according to 2013 report by HealthExpress, an online clinic. As a result of the rise in sexually transmitted diseases (STD), the online clinic tagged Sweden as the STD capital of Europe.
The report was based on over 3,500 sexually transmitted infection consultations across Europe. After the Swedes, Germans, French, Poles, Spanish and Italians made up the top 10 nationalities with STD infections, reports Daily Mail.
To raise awareness of how STD spreads, the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education made in summer an advertisement showing a man wearing a giant penis costume. The man was running around parks and sidewalk cafes, spraying people with confetti. The advert uses the tagline, "The penis can surprise you."
