Starbucks is adding the new Flat White espresso drink to its menu on Jan. 6, Tuesday, and it has revealed the drink's Australian roots.
Reportedly either drunk in Melbourne, Australia in the 1970s or created in Sydney in the early 1980s, the Flat White espresso drink is an "expertly steamed whole milk poured over two shots of espresso, topped with microfoam swirled into beautiful latte art," according to Starbucks.
The Seattle, Washington-based coffee company and coffeehouse chain described the Flat White as a "coffee connoisseurs' choice" that mixes Starbucks signature Espresso Roast and freshly steamed milk with microfoam, which makes it different from other espresso drinks.
For genuine Flat White experience, Starbucks said it "expertly handcrafted and served" the new espresso drink in their Flat White cup.
The new Flat White espresso drink has been available in the United Kingdom for several years already and is finally making its way across the United States although it will become a part of Starbucks' core menu unlike the seasonal frappes and lattes, according to Eater.
Meanwhile, Starbucks has also revealed the contents of the 2015 fukubukuro or lucky bags. Many stores in Japan released the bags at the start of the new year. In the bags, customers can get a variety of items and limited edition items for less than they typically retail for.
Contained in a chic tote bag with an inconspicuous Starbucks logo in its bottom corner, the 2015 Starbucks Coffee fukubukuro has Starbucks Via Coffee Essence assortment set, 330ml stainless steel bottle, House blend 250g and a greetings card containing coupon for one free drink.
