Seagate, one of the biggest names when it comes to the hard disk drive industry, is making rounds in the tech community by going one step further. In their latest release, the LaCie division of Seagate has made waves by turning the once cold hard drives into magnificent works of art.
At their CES 2015 announcement, LaCie unveiled their newest creation dubbed the "Mirror". It is a one terabyte hard drive, enclosed in Gorilla Glass with a reflective body that is impervious to scratches. "Mirror" closely resembles a hard drive in close inspection.
However, what caught the attention of many is the ebony wood on which the drive sits on. Seagate claimed that the piece of wood was specially imported from Indonesia for this purpose. Seagate and its LaCie division are no longer new to these styles of hard drive design. Last year, LaCie released the "Sphere," a one terabyte hard drive that is enclosed in spherical shaped silver plated bodywork.
Along with their newest product, Seagate also launched a couple of other devices in their CES presentation. Among these is the Seagate Personal Cloud, a hard drive that can stream data straight into tablet or smart TV's.
Another product introduced in the expo is the Seagate Wireless, a battery-powered drive that can stream to three different devices simultaneously. The drive has 500 gigabyte of storage.
Perhaps the best device to be unveiled by Seagate is the Seagate Seven. The Seagate Seven is only seven millimeters thick and boasts a full steel casing. It has a maximum of 500 gigabyte storage space.
Many experts criticized Seagate's decision of revolutionizing the hard drive market, especially when cloud storage and SSD are the current hot items when it comes to storage. For many of its fans, however, these hard drives are not just merely storage devices; they are considered a work of art and possess some kind of aesthetic.
