The Netflix service is said to be currently blocked in some countries other than the United States. Netflix has denied allegations that it has changed its policy when it comes to streaming copyrighted contents to other countries.
Netflix users outside of the United States have reasons to fear that Netflix might have updated its system to disallow users from accessing contents from the U.S. Before, users who are not from the U.S. can use the streaming and video on demand services of Netflix by using virtual private network or VPN. However, many users are raising complaints that Netflix might have patched that little loophole in its attempt to suppress what they call "Netflix pirate".
A virtual private network is an internet protocol that enables its users to mask their IP addresses and make it look like they are from the US in order to gain access to contents that are only available in that area. Netflix has previously declared its intention to launch in Australia early in 2015. According to reports, roughly 200,000 Australians are accessing US contents on Netflix by means of VPN.
However, a report from TorrentFreak claimed otherwise. According to the report, the VPN blockade was due to the fact that the Netflix Android app is forcing the Google DNS which makes it harder if not impossible to access the service using VPN.
An agent from the bypass service Unblock-U said "We saw a similar issue a couple of years ago on the PlayStation 3 and it became apparent at the time that Netflix and Sony were carrying out tests which is why not everyone was affected."
Netflix has not issued an official statement about the problem; so far they have denied all the allegations regarding the block.
Based on the terms and conditions of Netflix, the user who signed up for their service is only allowed to access movie or TV shows that are available in the region where their account was setup.
