"Super Smash Bros." has remained a hit among fans even though it has been released back in 1999. However, other titles in the franchise appeared to lack what some fans had wanted, sparking the development of other fan-made projects like Project M.
The "Super Smash Bros." Project M was a fan-made mod that aimed to transform the "Super Smash Brawl" into a "Super Smash Bros. Melee." After six years of delivering content to fans, the creators has shut down operations.
The creators of the fan-made game mod did not offer any explanations to its decisions. It had been fans' way of improving on some of the things that Nintendo had released for the game, but it remained an unsanctioned project in terms of legality with Nintendo, Kotaku reported. It had even brought in a couple of characters, new stages and tweaks to the game.
As it stands now, the "Super Smash Bros" Project M no longer exists, with download links no longer functioning. The official website of the project now only contains the team's farewell letter to the Project M community.
For the most part, it appears that the team is planning to move on to other projects, this time ones that have been built from the ground up. From this day on, there will no longer be a team that will be dedicated to the creation of Project M.
The Project M had become a big hit for fans, with some even using the mod in national "Super Smash" tournaments thanks to its millions of downloads. Even with six years of operation under its belt, the decision to close down still appears to be out of Nintendo's hands. To this day, the creators of "Super Smash Bros" Project M did not receive any legal action from Nintendo, nor did the latter force the operations to shut down.
This may not be the best news for "Smash" fans, but those playing "Super Smash Bros." will have better development this December. It appears that game creator Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed that more news about Cloud will be coming in the Nintendo Direct for December, Design & Trend reported. As Nintendo had announced earlier, the last Nintendo Direct of the year will be dedicated to the "Super Smash Bros."
Fans may expect more information on the character's attacks. It is also not impossible for Nintendo to announce the winner of the Smash Fighter Ballot, which could give fans an answer as to which additional character will be added to the fray of "Super Smash Bros."
