TAG Heuer has announced its plan of increasing the production of their Carrera Connected smartwatch to meet demand from retailers.
The watch manufacturing company’s chairman Jean-Claude Biver said that they are increasing the Android Wear timepiece production from 1,200 per week to 2,000. He added that they are also freezing online sales until May or June 2016 for the sake of giving physical stores a better shot.
Carrera Connected smartwatch costs $1,500 and features a nice titanium case and runs under Android Wear software. Those who are interested, they have the option to upgrade to a limited edition mechanical watch for another $1,500, according to Tech Crunch. It was first introduced by the outspoken Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer.
The titanium construction makes the watch very light on the wrist, stepping up from other smartwatches on the market. It features a "transflective" display, which makes it readable in direct sunlight, and it has an always on mode to display the time.
Its screen is described as sharp and vibrant, making it possible to discern pixels when looking closer. It has a circular touchscreen and voice controls. It can count the wearer’s steps, show notifications, and give a handy info at opportune times.
The battery generally lasted a day between charges. Its display has an always-on mode and is readable outdoors, but it is not as high-res as other options. The watch can perform Google searches as well.
Swiss watchmaker’s lineup is expanding in response to the comparatively strong interest. The company has a promise of producing Carrera Connected in different varieties, executions and materials from late 2016 to early 2017, possibly including gold and diamond-encrusted models, Engadget reported.
TAG Heuer is a brand with a long legacy of traditional watchmaking that dates back over 150 years. The company is best known for its racing-inspired chronographs, also known as stopwatches.
