"Desperate Housewives" actress Eva Longoria has voiced her thoughts on the new NBC series "Telenovela."
Longoria is set to play Ana Sofia in the upcoming series "Telenovela." In her interview with New York Post, the "Desperate Housewives" star said that she had seen first-hand the "Soap Dish" qualities. She added that a lot of their storylines were derived from real-life things.
The actress also explained that "Telenovela" will be appealing to every nation. Longoria said that one had not needed to speak Spanish to understand what the actors had been saying. She added that the show was a "love letter" to the form and such formats were beloved by the community, where they were Spanish, Middle Eastern, or Turkish.
For Longoria, "Telenovela's" formats dealt with universal themes. According to TV Line, "Telenovela" had no surprising twist, as every single "zinger" may view it as a "hastily assembled first draft." While this is the case, Longoria and the rest of the cast reportedly do their best to breathe life into the material.
Set to air on NBC, "Telenovela" centers on the daily life of telenovela star Ana Sofia who does not speak Spanish, although she is the center of attention from her co-stars and the people around her. Aside from Longoria, the series stars Jencarlos Canela as Sofia's actor ex-husband Xavier, Alex Meneses, and Amaury Nolasco.
Zachary Levi will play Sofia's boss and Diana Maria Riva is set to play Sofia's costume designer and best friend. Jose Moreno Brooks will play insecure gay castmate Gael. In addition, Ricardo Antonio Chavira, who played Longoria's husband Carlos in "Desperate Housewives," will also be a guest star in "Telenovela."
On Nov. 12, NBC announced that "Telenovela" is set to premiere as a preview after "The Voice" on Dec. 7. The series will premiere in its regular on Jan. 4, 2016.
