Former pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather (49-0, 26 KO's) may have ended his career at 49 wins, but the undefeated American was recently seen wearing a "The Money Team" T-Shirt with the number 48 emblazoned on the front.
When asked what was so special about the number 48, when Mayweather ended his career at a 49-win clip following his unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto last September, Mayweather replied: "This is in honor of my 48th victory, which is the most important of my career."
Mayweather's 48th victory came against long-time rival Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, whom he defeated handily by decision back in an epic, record-shattering encounter last May.
Mayweather and Pacquiao had negotiated a super fight for the greater part of the last five years, but it was just recently that they came to an agreement, after numerous failed dealings.
As a result, both fighters obliterated financial records, among various other statistics, and the richest fight in boxing history was in the books.
Pacquiao, who was coming off a solid victory over Long Island's Chris Algieri, in a fight wherein he sent Algieri to the canvas a whopping six times, figured in an underwhelming performance against Mayweather, ending up with the lowest punch output he's had in his career.
The Filipino ring icon complained of a nagging rotator cuff injury after the fight, which he blamed for his poor performance.
Mayweather on the other hand, came in well-prepared and took the victory quite easily.
"A lot of people said that I couldn't win the fight, but I proved all of that was wrong," said Mayweather.
"Therefore the fight against Manny Pacquiao is the most important for me."
Nowadays, Mayweather is busy enjoying the spoils of his lavish career. Although the allure of a 50th victory is fast approaching, Pacquiao has expressed his desire to end his career after just one more bout in 2016.
Those hoping for a Mayweather rematch will most likely be disappointed, including Pacquiao himself who had recently stated that he wishes to face Mayweather once more before he retires.
As it stands however, Pacquiao is penciled in to fight in Las Vegas on April 9, against either Timothy Bradley, Amir Khan, or unbeaten Jr. Welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
Pacquiao is expected to make a decision soon but rumors are that he has already chosen Bradley to be his final opponent.
