HBO's Bill Maher is one of those who were quick to comment on the recent Charlie Hebdo shotting in France. Appearing on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," Maher gave his opinions about the terror attack and the right to free speech.
"We have to stop saying when something like this that happened in Paris today, we have to stop saying, 'Well, we should not insult a great religion,'" Maher said. "First of all, there are no great religions. They're all stupid and dangerous."
For Maher, the real meaning of free speech is being "able to insult whatever we want."
Known as a prominent critic of organized religions, particularly Islam, Maher appeared to be eager to bring up the religious aspect of the Charlie Hebdo shooting while Jimmy Kimmel seemed to be reluctant to do so.
"You're the host, you gotta tell them the bad news," Maher told Kimmel. "We have to not avoid who did this. Who did this, Jimmy?"
"Well, we presume-" Kimmel replied but was immediately cut off by Maher who exclaimed, "No, it's not a presume! No! It's Muslim terrorists."
While Maher acknowledged that most Muslim people would not have carried out a terror attack like the Charlie Hebdo shooting, he emphasized that the important point is that there are hundreds of millions of Muslims supporting and applauding such an attack.
Meanwhile, HBO has revealed that Maher's show titled "Real Time With Bill Maher" has been renewed for two more seasons at least. Two years ago, HBO also renewed the show for two seasons only.
