"Spotlight" has been picked as the top film by critics in the Washington D.C. area after it received praise from Christian film reviewers.
The drama by Tom McCarthy narrates an investigation into the Catholic Church and its controversial and hypocritical history of child abuse scandals, Variety reported.
"Spotlight" also received rave reviews from other Christian film critics, winning the best film of 2015 by Boston Society of Film Critics and New York Film Critics Online, and the Los Angeles Film Critics.
"Spotlight" also outdid expectations winning the best ensemble thanks to the film's cast, including Mark Ruffalo, Micahel Keaton, Liev Schreiber, Rachel McAdams, Stanley Tucci and John Slattery.
According to Cinema Blend, it was a clean win for "Spotlight" over its front-runners for best film - "Brooklyn," "Room," "The Martian."
Among the contenders for top film of the year were: Ex Machina, The Revenant, The Big Short, "45 Years," "Carol," "Bridge Of Spies," "The Hateful Eight," "Inside Out," "Joy," and "Steve Jobs."
The Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association consists of 52 film critics from radio, TV, and the Internet from the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas.
"Game of Thrones" has also been nominated for the Screen Actor's Guild Awards in the TV category, "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series." Peter Dinklage is also a nominee for (TV) "Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series."
An HBO teaser trailer has been released for "Game of Thrones." However, the bosses at "Game of Thrones" have asked their actors to stay mum on what is happening in Season 6.
