Sky and Microsoft created another successful collaboration as the Sky TV app is now available on Xbox One.
In an interview with Eurogamer, United Kingdom Xbox marketing chief Harvey Eagle confirmed that the app is currently in the works for Xbox One and will be launched soon. Eagle did not reveal a specific release date.
Xbox One users with Sky Go Extra or Sky Multiscreen subscription can now enjoy live shows and on demand Sky content through its console; for the rest, it is a £5 ($8) per month deal. Currently, Xbox owners can avail of its two-month free trial just by signing up Sky website.
Sky subscribers will experience the benefits from the app’s offering of over 1,000 movies, box sets, live shows, and sporting events.
Sky's Brand Director TV Products Luke Bradley-Jones stated that the company is looking forward to add Xbox One to their supported devices. Owners of Xbox One will be able to watch the latest from Sky TV with its huge winter line-up including “The Last Panthers,” “Fungus: The Bogeyman” and “Scandal,” Pocket-lint reported.
The app was proven a hit when it was integrated on the Xbox 360. Xbox One owners were puzzled when it was not added on the said console. With that being said, customers were left with two options, stream using the Now TV app or run their Sky box using their Xbox One.
Rival PlayStation 4 already had the Sky TV app since December 2014. Sky TV on Xbox One is expected to have the same process as in PS4. For Sony PS4, it is required to have a Sky Go Extra subscription which is on top of the existing Sky subscription.
The Sky TV app can now be downloaded by Xbox One owners in the U.K.
