When Google released the Pixel C, the tablet was immediately criticized for its lack of basic productivity features that are present on some of its comparable rivals. Now, Google announced that it is updating its flagship tablet to support split-screen functionality.
According to Venture Beat, devices like the iPad Pro and the Surface Pro 4 already support slip-screen functionality when they were released. Split-screen allows users to work on two separate windows, a feature which greatly increases productivity.
Many tech experts were quite surprised when the Google Pixel C tablet lacked such feature. In order to remedy this, Google director for consumer hardware Andrew Bowers said in a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, "Split screen is in the works!"
Bowers gave the answer when Reddit users asked him about what features were missing when the Pixel C tablet was released. The split-screen feature did show up in the developer preview of Android Marshmallow. However, the feature did not make it into the final release.
Aside from split-screen functionality, it appears that Google is also working to make the "OK Google" function as an always-on feature on the Pixel C. This feature is already available on devices like the Nexus 9, but was strangely missed on the Pixel C.
The Pixel C USB Type-C port will also support DisplayPort in the future. This connectivity feature will allow users to connect the Pixel C tablet into other screens. The feature is already available on the Google Chromebook Pixel.
All these new features were confirmed by Google. However, the company did not provide a timeline as to when these features will be rolled out to the Pixel C tablet.
