Bethesda Game Studios has opened up a new development studio in Montreal, Quebec to broaden its development capabilities for PC, console and mobile.
Todd Howard, Bethesda Game Studio's executive producer, said Bethesda has worked with very talented developers in Montreal for quite some time, and has 40 team members Polygon reported. The studio will be managed by Yves Lachance, who worked with Behavior Interactive, the studio behind the iOS and Android versions of Fallout tie-in “Fallout Shelter.”
Lachance has expressed that he is pleased to be opening an office in Montreal and share something to great game-making talent, helping develop future Bethesda games.
“Fallout Shelter” showed that hardcore game brands can generate huge audiences on mobile devices, which “mobile first” titles such as “Machine Zone’s Game of War” has dominated.
However, the Montreal studio location is not here to make portable experiences of its development profile. It will be working on console titles, too, but as for which platforms or games it is currently developing remains to be seen after serious work on it.
“Fallout 4” was released on Nov. 12 and sold 12 million units. A new patch for the game was launched on Dec. 7 and fixed mostly stability issues with the sprawling open-world RPG.
Canada offers considerable tax incentives for video game companies, and it has a total of 472 active game studios, according to a 2015 survey by the Entertainment Software Association of Canada.
Bethesda said it is currently hiring for positions in both the new Montreal office and its Maryland location, according to VG 24/7. Interested parties can check the video game company’s website for further details.
