Social media web page Twitter on Monday released its list of the pinnacle trending subjects right through the year 2015. The range list, which was once taken care of through topic witnessed the music category ruled by K-pop.
In the Twitter's 2015 trends ranking, GOT7 came in second. On the other hand, the fourth, sixth and tenth place on the rankings were taken by EXO, BTS and Big Bang respectively.
Boy bands dominated the list with One Direction taking the top position. The only female act in the top ten music trends was Fifth Harmony, the British girl group, it appeared at, fittingly, the fifth place on the list. StoryClash reported.
Twitter's trending topics highlighted the global popularity of GOT7, BTS, EXO and Big Bang. Each act has large, devoted fan bases.
The four groups happen to have released new collection this year and won several awards for the year among them at recent year-end ceremonies.
The only K-pop idol group on the Twitter list to appear trending in Korean was BTS (#방탄소년단), although "The Show" an SBS MTV's weekly music show, trended in Korean (#더쇼) on the Twitter's top ten television trends of 2015.
The top 10 music hashtags of 2015 happened at a time when MelOn Music Awards2015 got held at the Olympic Park Gymnastics Stadium in Seoul. MelOn Music Awards2015 is among the big four music awards events in South Korea, it is organized by LOEN Entertainment and gets held annually.
Many major K-pop stars attended the event on Saturday, Nov. 7 as nominees and as performers.
YG Entertainment powerhouses Big Bang were the big winners of the night who managed to win in four categories including Song of the Year for "Bang Bang Bang" and also Artist of the Year.
Album of the Year, which is another major award, went to EXO for their Exodus album.
