Texas-based Hilcorp Energy should expect a deluge of applicants soon after people get wind of report that all 1,381 employees of the largest privately held oil company in the U.S. gave yearend bonuses of $100,000 each.
The boss from heaven who gave each worker a $100,000 check is Jeffery Hildebrand, reports Business Insider. What he did is not surprising because the energy giant, according to its website, considers its employees its greatest resource, not the oil that it digs.
Hildebrand, CEO and chairman of the company, has a Master of Science in petroleum engineering degree and Bachelor of Science in geology degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He previously worked at American Energy Capital Corp., the Dan A. Hughes Company and Exxon Company.
Hilcorp was also included in Forbes's list of 100 Best Places for Millennials to work in. The company is in 36th place. In its profile of Hilcorp, Forbes mentions the $100,000 bonus given when the company meets its goal under its corporate motto "When Hilcorp Wins, We All Win."
It got a higher 20th ranking on the 100 Best Companies to Work For List, its third consecutive year of making it to the roster.
Besides the bonus, Hilcorp - established in 1989 - has a scholarship fund for the children of its employees who meet certain conditions and a cultural exchange for workers to travel to its Alaska office.
"The bonuses, the buy-in plan, the open-book management, the culture ... Generally everything about working at Hilcorp is great," Fortune quotes an employee. That outlook is shared by 94 percent of the company's staff, according to a survey.
In the poll, great challenges and great atmosphere got 97 percent rating each, great rewards 96 percent, great pride 98 percent, great communication 95 percent and great bosses 95 percent. About 80 percent of 1,108 of the 1,381 workers took part in the survey.
