Social media giant Facebook made an announcement that they will be adding a new feature that will provide news feed updates with or without Internet access.
This offline mode will allow users to read previously downloaded posts after a user refreshes their news feed.
Facebook will base the unread feed content through its rank and relevance, according to TrustedViews. The app may not put stories with images as a priority if the Internet connection is slow or unstable.
“We rank relevant, already downloaded stories upon startup of the app, when you navigate to News Feed from the app or pull down to refresh stories at the top of your feed, or as you are scrolling through your News Feed.” The company said through a blog posted on the Facebook Code.
Facebook users already have the capability to like and share posts while offline. This new update will now let users set-up comments to be updated once they go back online, The Verge reported.
The company also stated that it is also testing a feature which will keep stories updated throughout the day by retrieving good stories while users have a stable connection.
Facebook updated its app with these new offline features because of the staggering rate people in potential markets are coming online. This is a result of Facebook’s efforts as well. The launch of Internet.org project back in 2013 achieved its goal of connecting promising communities around the world online.
The company did not disclose the exact date when the updates will be implemented.
