"The Aviator" star Cate Blanchett, who has just earned best actress nomination for the 1950s drama "Carol" in Golden Globe awards, is almost set to join "Thor: Ragnarok."
The 46-year-old actress is in talks with Marvel studio to join its 2017 superhero film, The Hollywood Reporter reported. The news comes after a week when it was announced that the studio has hired Stephany Folsom to work on the script.
It is rumored that Marvel has been on the hunt for a "bad-ass female" for a specific role. However, it is yet unclear what character has been offered to Blanchett.
Taika Waiti in on board to direct the third "Thor" film with Chris Hemsworth returning to play the Norse God. The movie will also feature Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk and the villainous Tom Hiddleston who is known for his role of Loki in "The Avengers" universe.
"Thor: Ragnarok" hits theatres on Oct. 27, 2017. Not much info is available regarding the plot of the fantasy drama. However, a major "Thor: Ragnarok" spoiler indicates that Hulk will play a major role in the movie, almost at par with Thor, Birth Movies Death reported.
Since the highly-anticipated movie will see the addition of another hero from the pages of Marvel's comics, Valkyrie, other than the series' regular characters like Loki, Heimdall, and Lady Sif, it is highly rumored that if Blanchett signs the movie, she will be seen in the role of a prominent female goddess.
Meanwhile, the actress is riding high this awards season with acclaim and nominations for her lesbian drama "Carol" and is competing against Brie Larson, who played a mother held captive with her young son in "Room," Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne of "The Danish Girl" for the best actress award.
