Facebook, the world's most popular social media network, is slowly becoming much less of a choice for the younger generation, but is seeing increased adult users, according to a recent survey.
The Pew Research Center surveyed 1,500 Internet users located in the United States. It found out that more adult users are using Facebook, with younger users gradually diminishing from the social network.
In its 2014 social media update, it showed that 56 percent of the Internet users surveyed were aged 65 and above, and was known to use Facebook.
Tech Times notes that more seniors are joining the social network to keep in touch with families and close friends.
Between 2013 and 2014, the percentage of adult Facebook users increased from 63 percent to 70 percent in the recent survey.
The U.S.-based think tank's study also showed that Facebook is still dominating the social media realm as only 28 percent of the respondents used Pinterest and LinkedIn, with Instagram, which is also owned by the Menlo-based firm, at 26 percent and Twitter at 23 percent.
It also found out that 45 percent of the Facebook users logging in the social network daily did more than one time at a day.
According to the study, 79 percent of the respondents that possess only one social media account used Facebook.
The study also found out that 81 percent of the American respondents with ages 18 and up use the Internet.
The survey was conducted via phone calls made during September 11 to September 14, and September 18 to September 21 in 2014.
