Tech giant Apple has rolled out iOS 9.2 just six weeks after the release of iOS 9.1, and the new update comes with many improvements and bug fixes across the board. There are more than 30 changes, but here are six features that stand out.
- Apple Music
iOS 9.2 sees many improvements coming to the Apple Music with regard to the UI and functions. In the update, users can create playlists, and as a result, the recently updated playlists will be situated at the top of the list. Furthermore, users will download albums and playlists from their iCloud Music Library for offline playback, and there are indicators to show those downloaded.
- Mail Drop
Apple has added Mail Drop, which is a nifty application that allows users to send files of up to 5GB via Mail app through iCloud Drive. The feature was initially OS X exclusive, but it has finally rolled out on iOS 9.2.
- iBooks
Fans who love reading and have iPhone, iPod, and iPad, will be excited to learn that iBooks now supports 3D Touch. The update allows users to Peek at pages and Pop into them from bookmarks, notes, and content. Users will as well tap and press to bring up a word definition and even play an audiobook in the background when browsing or reading.
- Apple News
While the iOS 9.2 has an update for Apple News, the feature is exclusive for users in the United Kingdom and the United States. iOS 9.2 incorporated a Top Stories section for the feature, outlining the most interesting or significant stories of the day. Furthermore, Apple News editors curate the stories on a daily basis.
- NumberSync
One of the long-awaited features is the AT&T NumberSync that allows users to make calls with other Apple devices like iPad and Apple Watch. iOS 9.2 now brings full support for NumberSync function.
- USB Camera Adapter Support
According to Tech Times, Apple recently launched its iPhone 6S Smart Battery Case together with a USB adapter. This allows users to connect cameras and move files, and the most recent update has support to use the accessory. However, the USB adapter is not compatible with the iPod Touch.
Other updates that come along with the iOS 9.2 include iPod Pro fixes, keyboard in Quick Reply advancement, improved Safari stability, Arabic support for Siri, and advanced Podcasts stability. iOS 9.2 comes with many fixes for bugs that should be resolved, according to Forbes.
