New research data on flight bookings has revealed that travelers looking for cheap tickets are least likely to find them online on a Friday, while experts have advised waiting for the weekend to make purchases.
A study by Expedia and Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) revealed that tickets booked on a Friday are 13 percent more than when buying tickets on a Saturday or a Sunday.
The online travel company urged travelers looking to book cheap tickets to Europe for the holidays to book tickets 140 days in advance of their expected travel date. Those looking to buy domestic flights in the United States have more chance of snaring a bargain by booking trips 57 days in advance.
The study took into consideration the booking habits of 10 billion air passengers and based on 2015 data, the research suggested that on average, weekends provided an opportunity to find good deals.
The data further revealed that most analysis indicated low air ticket prices on weekend days as these are the days where most leisure travelers purchase tickets. However, business travelers most often purchase tickets during the week and owing to this a higher air ticket price on average was revealed.
The study suggest that last year Tuesday was found to be the best day to get flight deals. However , research this year proved that trends had changed and Friday is the more expensive day to make purchases.
Expedia's Senior Vice President, Global Tour and Transport , Greg Schulze told the Daily Mail, "Analyzing these massive data sets with our partners at ARC gives us smart insights that we can pass along to travelers."
Schulze said travelers can benefit from such data because even small, simple insights in the booking process such as what time of year or day of week to book can yield significant savings.
