Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed on Monday that China is willing to help Africa in building a high-speed railway network to connect African territories, China Daily reported.
The Africans, through Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, chairwoman of the African Union Commission, want to have a high-speed railway network connecting all African capitals to boost pan-African communication and development, Wang disclosed. He added that this has been unveiled during Chinese Premier Li Keqiang's visit to the African Union.
Meanwhile, Li offered to share advanced technology to Africa totaling at least $12 billion. China is ready to work with Africa to fulfill their dream of having a high-speed railway network. China also offered $10 million in aid for wildlife protection, Reuters reported.
According to Wang, China's cooperation with Kenya and Africa is for a mutual benefit between developing countries. This is also a way for China to strengthen friendship with these countries, Wang added.
The China Railway Construction Corporation recently completed a $1.83-billion worth of upgrade to a 1,344-kilometer track across Angola and China Road. The building of a Mombasa-Nairobi railway is being completed by Bridge Corporation and is expected to extend to five other countries. This project is worth $13.8 billion, China Daily said.
Wang Mengshu, a tunnel and railway expert at the Academy of Engineering, reiterated that China is the ideal option for foreign countries for high-speed railway network. He added that China has the expertise and experience in designing, building and operating a high-speed railway network.
