South Korean auto manufacturer Hyundai took the wraps off its flagship car in the Genesis luxury brand, the 2017 Genesis G90.
In a press release obtained by Auto Blog, Hyundai said, "Designed with profound elegance, natural dignity and grandeur by the Prestige Design Division that will craft the visual identity of each Genesis model, the G90 is the first realization of the brand's 'Athletic Elegance' design style."
The Genesis G90 will be known in its native Korea as EQ900. The car will effectively replace the Hyundai Equus as the company's flagship luxury car.
Compared to the outgoing Equus, the G90 sports a larger exterior dimension. The car is closely compared to the Mercedes S0Class, although Hyundai reiterated that it will keep the price of the G90 appealing to a mass audience.
At the head of the design team that worked on the Genesis G90 is Peter Schreyer. It was carried out by the recently established Prestige Design Division. The Athletic Elegance design scheme will cover five future Genesis models following the G90.
The front end of the G90 is the Crest-shaped grille that emblazons the new winged emblem. The grille is flanked by LED headlamps on both sides and a chrome beltline bridge right to the rear with the car's dual exhaust tips, according to Edmunds.
Interested buyers can choose from three engine choices; a 5.9-liter V8, a 3.8-liter V6 and a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6. All three engine models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Drivetrain is available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
