Windows 8.1 has received mixed reviews from the users but Microsoft is already preparing to improve their user experience with the new Windows 10.
Apparently, according to Post Gazette, there will be no Windows 9 on the line. The Windows 10, that a few have speculated about, is reported to be unveiled in an event on Jan. 21.
There were reports showing Microsoft has already been beta testing Windows 10. The OS is said to be released in both desktop and smartphone versions, The Verge reports.
Sources told The Verge that the unveiling would include an actual demo of the new OS. Microsoft is set to show the new interface that will be closely related to the Xbox One's design.
The new Windows 10 will offer the option to change the style to light and dark themes. It will also have the cross-section of the applications in the tablet and smartphone software to make the user experience of all Windows users universal.
Microsoft recently released the "Phone Insider" app that provides an access to the Windows 10 program. This has allowed users to beta test the new OS. However, this app is only available to Microsoft employees.
Aside from the aesthetic improvement, Windows 10 will also have the Cortana integration, a Microsoft voice assistant like Siri. More details on the new OS will be released next week.
Meanwhile, PC World predicts the new OS could be a good competition to the Chrome OS.
Senior research analyst at IDC Jay Chow said the new OS will address bugs in Windows 8.1. With Lenovo and Dell endorsements, Windows 10 already has the "home court advantage," according to Chou.
"If Microsoft can help PCs be price competitive, then there is this home-court advantage to maintain Windows share."
