About 2.3 million tourists visited Beijing during China's three-day New Year holiday, website China.org.cn reported on Jan. 12, Monday.
According to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, statistics show that Beijing's 130 major scenic spots have received about 2.3 million visits.
Record shows that 1.29 million tourists visited the historical and cultural scenic areas, 618,000 visited the city parks, 151,000 visited the modern entertainment scenic spots, 105,000 visited the museums, and 56,000 visited the ski resorts.
Meanwhile, Beijing's famous parks--namely, the Summer Palace, Beihai Park, Yuyuantan Park, Taoranting Park and the Beijing Botanical Garden--have been consistently attracting many citizens. These snow-themed entertainment parks have ice and snow activities that tourists can enjoy. It is noted that these parks were opened in support to the joint bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics by Beijing and Zhangjiakou City, China.org.cn added.
For tourists to have a full view of the Summer Palace's winter scenery, the city opened up part of Kunming Lake for a skating rink. According to the record, the Summer Palace received 50,000 visits during the three-day New Year holiday.
Supervision and management has been enhanced to guarantee the tourists' safety. The management departments of these scenic spots also monitored the flow of tourists while making emergency plans in advance, the China.org.cn revealed.
A revenue amounting to 22.56 million yuan ($3.64 million) was generated through folklore tours. During the three-day holiday, 316,000 visits were made through this activity.
