Games for the Xbox One and Xbox One 360 as well as apps, TV shows and movies are being offered at discounted prices in Microsoft's yearend Countdown sale. The global sales with daily and weekly price cuts are available through the Xbox Store.
It would run for 17 days from Dec. 22, 2015 through Jan. 7, 2016, reports CNET. The price cuts would range from 40 to 60 percent for the Xbox One and Xbox One 360. The target market of Microsoft are consumers who have yet to complete their gift purchase list and shoppers looking for price cuts on games and other Microsoft products.
Among the games with discounts are Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza Motorsport 6, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Fallout 4 and Call of Duty: Black Ops III.
By cutting prices, bundling free games and making available other marketing promotions, Microsoft is slowly eating into the market of Sony PlayStation 4 which is still the number one in terms of sales. Besides the Christmas price cut, Microsoft has a $50 discount on the price of the console that comes with two free games.
With the $50 discount, the Refurbished Xbox One + Kinect is sold at $319, the One Console at $279, the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Bundle at $299 and the Rise of the Tomb Raider Bundle at $349.
By addressing the complaint of Xbox One owners of lack of backward compatibility, players could now enjoy more than 100 games on their consoles on games designed for Xbox One 360. More games are being added regularly, while the Countdown sale would offer price offs on over 10 backward-compatible games.
For movie fans, Microsoft offers discounts on hundreds of movies and TV shows, including "Mad Max: Fury Road," "Kingsman: The Secret Service" and "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation."
