A hacker group called Phantom Squad said they will shut down Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on Christmas Day.
Phantom Squad's threat by shutting down the two gaming giants will be done by a series of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, New York Daily News reported.
"We are going to shut down Xbox Live and PSN this year on Christmas. And we are going to keep them down for one week straight. #DramaAlert," hacker group Phantom Squad said in Twitter account.
The distributed denial of service attacks are falsified server traffic barrages which could disable a system.
Many Xbox Live and PlayStation Network gaming consoles are expected to receive this Christmas Day. Once hacked, Phantom Squad's shut down threats will be the second time to attack and make offline the Xbox Live and PlayStation Network gaming networks on Christmas Day, the report said.
The hacker group said the reason they are doing the threat and possible attack to the gaming networks is that cyber space "does not exist."
The gaming network companies Sony and Microsoft have received threats and attacks for many years.
The hacker group threat is to be expected for a week between Dec. 25 and New Year.
Meanwhile, same incident happened last year as a hacker group named Lizard Squad had taken down the two gaming systems on Christmas Eve, Fortune reported.
While it happened on Christmas Eve, Phantom Squad said that they are not part of the same group which attacked the gaming systems last year, the report added.
