After four decades since the Philippines won the crown, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was named as Miss Universe 2015.
However, behind all the glamour and grace, Wurtzbach underwent intensive training and diet for Miss Universe 2015. According to a previous interview of Wurtzbach in the Philippines, she spent most of her time in the gym.
She said that she almost cried in the training building her strong legs for her stance and long hours of standing on the stage. Her workout focused mostly in muscle building and sculpting.
For her diet, she said that she had egg whites, chicken breast, vegetables - all boiled.
Aside from the diet and workout, she also worked on the perfect walk to impress the judges.
The Philippines last won the Miss Universe crown in 1973 by Margarita Moran and by Gloria Diaz in 1969.
How To Become a Beauty Queen
In the Philippines, beauty pageants were taken seriously by aspirants and managers. Filipinos were deeply passionate about pageants and are causes of heated debate and discourse. Rooting for candidates can, sometimes, break families, friendships and relationships.
Girls are scouted as early as 14 years old. Most managers revealed that the height and face are what they usually look for. Candidates must be at least five feet, five inches tall and a stunning face.
Some imperfections like snaggletooth or pimples largely affect the results. Thus, these are resolved by a trip to the dentist and dermatologist.
Most beauty queens enter "beauty camps," which is actually a boot camp for beauty queens. Mentors and former beauty queens train and give advice to newbies.
Candidates must train for at least six months before the competition.
