A national smart device security alliance was released in Shanghai. The device, which is the first of its kind in the country, is designed to improve online information security for all.
The new device, aptly called the China Smart Device Alliance, is said to have the ability to make sure the Internet would be safe to use for all applications--online commerce, government operations and mobile transactions. The device could also ensure personal privacy protection for all users.
The alliance encompasses the whole industry chain. Included in the chain are the chip designers, smartphone sellers, operating system developers, as well as huge computer companies such as the ZTE Group, Tencent and Alibaba Group.
Following this news, Shanghai Zhangjiang High Tech Industrial Park, where many of these members are based, announced its plan to become an information security park.
Locally branded phones have been doing well so far, with surging sales observed of the premium smartphones offered by Xiaomi and ZTE. These domestic phones captured 78.3-percent market share at the end of 2014, a record of nearly 50-percent increase from 2013.
For this year, the information security market is already worth around 67 billion yuan, as estimated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. This is expected to grow up to 100 billion yuan, according to ZTE.
