Passengers of a boat race in a Sydney to Hobart yacht race on Saturday were surprised that when their vessel developed trouble and was sinking, it was nudists who came to their rescue. The incident happened on Saturday near Lady Bay Beach.
Travelaol reports that inside the small boat were a man, woman and a child. According to Getty photographer Chris Pearce who was covering the event, he noticed the boat angling into the shore.
Then he heard the man with the child starting to scream expletives to the people on shore. Besides saying expletives, he was shouting "come help, come help." The nudists waded into the 15-meter deep water to tie a rope to the boat and pull it to safety.
The Sydney Morning Herald reports that there were more than 100 participants to the yearly race. When the crowds passed Lady Bay Beach, some people giggled upon seeing nudists on the beach. Besides the nudists, some clothed beachgoers also helped in the rescue.
Hundreds of people on the beach watched the rescue that lasted about five minutes. A boat was dispatched by the New South Wales Parks and Wildlife Service to provide assistance to the small boat sailors.
During the rescue, none of the nudists turned around.
