The China Central Television (CCTV) network has revealed several details of this year's Spring Festival Gala, including performances from some of the country's top-caliber artists from the entertainment industry.
The annual Spring Festival Gala, which is also known as the New Year's Gala and commonly referred to by the abbreviation "Chunwan," is a special event produced by CCTV and aired on the eve of the Lunar New Year every year.
For the past years, well-known celebrities are invited to perform in CCTV's special production that is viewed by more than 700 million people every year, making it China's premiere television event.
Last year, the show drew over 800 million viewers and was deemed the "most watched television program in the world."
This year, the beginning of the Spring Festival on Feb. 19 would be made more colorful by performances from singers David Tao and Karen Mok.
Actors Zhu Yawen, Tong Dawei and his wife Guan Yue, and Zhang Fengyi, all included in CCTV's partial list of performers, have also confirmed to grace the event.
Nigermaidi Zechman, a renowned Chinese emcee who became popular for hosting the TV shows "SuperStar DingDong" and "Sing My Song," might also be one of the presenters of the event.
The show normally features musical, dance, comedy, and drama performances and would be concluded by the singing of "Can't Forget Tonight" as per tradition since it was established in 1984.
The show would be aired in flagship CCTV-1 and its satellite channels CCTV-4, CCTV-9, CCTV-E, CCTV-F and CCTV-HD.
