The LG G4 is reportedly getting its replacement soon with a device likely to be called the LG G5, the specs of which recently leaked out. More interestingly, the handset details seem to hint the core feature upgrades packed with the Nexus 2016 flagship phone if rumors will prove correct that LG is once again a Google partner on the upcoming project.
Thanks to notable gadget leaker Evan Blass, also known as @evleaks, Android fans are getting a glimpse on the G5. And as the G5 is rumored to be repurposed as one of the Nexus smartphones to come out this 2016, the details provided point to the possible device features that Google and LG will jointly unleashed come the Nexus 2016 unboxing.
Here are the rumored LG G5 (and some of which will likely become part of the next Nexus phone) specs and features so far:
Dual display
Blass said that the LG G5 will sport a 5.3-inch screen on release date but like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, it will have a second screen that is located on the top portion of the front panel. What is unique about the G5 second display is its stand-alone features as Blass indicated on his report that the mini screen is fired up by its own display and backlight driver.
Metal casing
Unlike the plastic-wrapped Nexus 5X, which LG supplied to Google last year, the G5 is metal-clad, Blass claims. This suggests that if the device will end up as the Nexus 2016 base-model, Android fans can expect a more premium finish or something akin to that of the Huawei-made Nexus 6P.
Dual-lens shooter
The LG G5 will arrive boasting of a rear 16MP and front 8MP camera combo but the more interesting step up on the shooting features is the inclusion of dual-lens on the main camera. This specific upgrade will give "the main 16-megapixel camera a 135-degree wide-angle capability," Blass said, citing his unnamed source.
Expansion provision
LG is said to introduce a game-changer with the G5 that Blass labelled as Magic Slot. Should the feature become real in time for the device rollout, the G5 will be fully capable of accommodating specific hardware expansions such as the attachment of virtual reality accessories, specialized camera or a physical keyboard.
As expected, the next Nexus will get a taste of this innovation if LG remain part of the Google mobile device effort.
On release date, which remains unknown at the moment, the LG G5 promises to be a mobile behemoth with the tandem of Snapdragon 820 and 3GB of RAM powering its operation. And like the G4, the device will have 32GB as basic storage configuration.
