The New York Knicks are in the hunt for backcourt help and one of their targets before the trade deadline is Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings.

The Knicks are reportedly looking to add backcourt depth, with the team looking to add demoted Jimmer Fredette and ex-Sixers Tony Wroten.

However, the Knicks' issue lies at the point guard spot and neither of the two are likely the player who can be an instant game-changer for a team that is well behind in the playoff run.

If the Knicks are looking to add depth this season, they may consider swinging a strong deal that would land them a solid PG. Enter Jennings.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks have Jennings in their radar in an attempt to improve their backcourt rotation of Jose Calderon and Jerian Grant.

"The Knicks have Pistons backup point guard Brandon Jennings, a free agent this summer, on their radar, but that would require a complicated trade," Berman wrote.

As complicated as it may look, the Knicks still have plenty of players and expiring contracts to offer the Pistons if New York plans to acquire Jennings. However, the most only valuable trade piece the Knicks have aside from future draft picks is Arron Afflalo, who has been putting up numbers in recent games.

Afflalo would instantly give the Pistons a scoring punch at the shooting guard position, while the Knicks get to acquire the elite point guard they have been looking for.

A deal would probably be complicated as Berman noted, but according to ESPN's trade machine, a straight swap between the two would work.

However, the Knicks are also pushing for a playoff spot this season, and if they seriously plan to do so, they would need Afflalo, who is the second highest scorer in the team with 13.7 points per game.

Moreover, the Pistons have also put a strong grasp at keeping Jennings for their own playoff push, but head coach and president of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy also admitted they will look at trade deals "if something happens in the next five weeks," reports Michigan Live
