LeTV, a Chinese phone maker, launched on Wednesday the Le Max Pro. It is the first smartphone in the world to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip.
In its review of the new phone, Engadget notes that the Le Max Pro offers some oomph, although it does not seem significantly faster than other high-end Android phones on the market. It's general dimensions and circular fingerprint sensor on the back is very similar to the Mate 8 of Huawei.
Besides the Snapdragon 820 chipset, the Le Max Pro features a 6.33-inch display running at WQHD, 3,400mAh battery, 21-megapixel back shooter and choices of 32, 64 or 128GB internal storage. The phone runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Like other made-in-China phones, it offers a separate app launcher with an iOS-style springboard setup.
LeTV, originally an online video streaming company in China, forayed into mobile phone production and made smartphone history by being the first to use the Snapdragon 820 chipset, ahead of other phone giants such as Motorola and LG, notes CNET. Prior to Le Max, the relatively unknown Chinese firm rolled out the Le 1 Pro Superphone and Le 1S.
The Snapdragon 820 chipset is 40 percent more power efficient and 40 percent higher performance in comparison to the 810, its predecessor, according to Qualcomm. But it is supposed to use 60 percent less power than the 810.
The Le Max Pro, however, has no tag price yet pending the opening of a LeTV store in Hollywood. LeTV showcased the Le Max Pro at the ongoing CES 2016 in Las Vegas.
