It was in summer 2015 when China released "Monster Hunt" and turned out as the greatest profitable movie. The record-breaking movie is now reportedly making its grand entry in North America later this January. While the unavoidable Hollywood's powerful movie "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" released in China recently, it is time for the "Monster Hunt" to hit U.S. theaters.
According to reports, "Monster Hunt" will be released on Jan. 22 in main markets of North America. The 3D version of this movie will bring lots of attraction and viewership, with guaranteed hits in the U.S. too. The North American audiences can watch it in new English dubbing version, and Chinese audiences in the U.S. can view it in original Chinese version with English subtitles.
According to Asia Releasing founder and CEO Milt Barlow, "Chinese people residing in North America will be lucky to watch this 3D version movie in Chinese language only." FilmRise CEO Danny Fisher told, "In the meantime, we have edited Monster Hunt cautiously so that the rating in U.S. will be high. Just like the Chinese audiences in China have appreciated this movie, we've figured out that the American parents and their kids too will welcome this movie wholeheartedly and enjoy it thoroughly."
"Monster Hunt's" production cost was about $50 million but offered a box-office hit in China, profiting more than $390 million. This was an all-time record made by "Monster Hunt" that surpassed many super-hit foreign titles like "Transformers: Age of Extinction," "Furious 7" and "Avatar."
"Shrek the Third" co-director Raman Hui directed the CG fantasy classic. "Monster Hunt" revolves around the war that took place between humans and monsters. In the heart of this story is a baby monster named Wuba, given birth by a man.
Variety outlet has admired the movie's awesome technicality, while THR had issues with its messy storyline. Overall, "Monster Hunt" got a positive review from audiences in China. Screen Daily even foretold in July 2015 that the rough tone and errant plotline of "Monster Hunt" may hold it back in global markets, such as U.S.
Though Hollywood movies have entertained Chinese movie-watchers, the reaction of U.S. audience after watching popular Chinese movie "Monster Hunt" will be eagerly awaited. Well the sweet baby monster in "Monster Hunt" will hopefully fascinate the eager U.S. movie watchers that can turn into a sure-shot hit in their market.
