The Chan sisters of Taiwan advanced into the third round of the 2016 Australian Open at Melbourne Park after defeating the Ukrainian duo of Kateryna Bondarenko and Olga Savchuk 6-3 6-3.
Second seeds Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan won 61 of 109 points contested, and saved three of five break points to remain in the hunt for their first career Grand Slam title.
The Chan sisters only took 64 minutes to dispatch the Ukrainians from the Australian Open, setting up a third round matchup against Great Britain duo of Jocelyn Rae and Anna Smith, who defeated their compatriots Johanna Konta and Heather Watson 6-2 6-3.
"Tomorrow, I have to play two games. I need to borrow your strength. Melbourne friends, come together," elder sister Yung-jan wrote on Facebook, reports the Taipei Times.
The Chinese tandem of Xu Yi-Fan and Zheng Saisai also moved into the third round after eliminating Russia's Daria Kasatkina and Montenegro's Danka Kovinic 6-3 6-2. The two remaining Chinese delegates in the women's doubles category will have a round of 16 clash against the team of Chinese Taipei's Hsieh Su-Wei and Georgia's Oksana Kalashnikova, who defeated Hungarian Timea Babos and Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik 6-3 4-6 7-5.
Meanwhile, top seeds Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Sania Mirza of India, who claimed their 11th WTA title together at the Sydney International earlier this month, claimed 1 6-2 6-3 win over Ukrainian twin sisters of Nadiia and Lyudmyla Kichenok.
Mirza and Hingis have won Wimbledon and the US Open since they came together as doubles partners last year in addition to their immense success on WTA-sanctioned tournaments.
