Right after "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens" was released, speculations are already rife that the next installment of the series is in the works. Rumor has it that the plotline of "Star Wars 8" is being rewritten to put greater focus on characters Rey, Finn and Poe.

CNN cites an unattributed report about "Star Wars 8" being rewritten, to reduce screen time for new characters, and giving space to main characters - Rey, Finn and Poe. Fan websites attribute this plot rewrite to immense popularity gained by Rey, Finn and Poe in "Star Wars 7." It had been suggested earlier that the new cast would be added to the eighth installment of "Star War" series; however, given the earlier trends of "Star Wars" franchise, new cast is unlikely to steal screen space of older main characters.

Reliable source reported that the script for "Star Wars 8" was written by Rian Johnson, and the upcoming installment shall also be directed by him.

"Star Wars" is an epic inter-galactic space war saga narrated through multiple movie series, developed by George Lucas. The original trilogy released in 1977 focuses on principal characters Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and smuggler Han Solo. While, the prequel of the series focused on Obi Wan-Kenobi, Padme Amidala and Anakin Skywalker.

Meanwhile, according to numerous reports, "Star Wars 8" will also likely to maintain the pattern of focusing on trio characters. In an interview with Wired Magazine, director of "Star Wars 7" J.J. Abrams mentions that though the script for "Episode VIII" was finished, there are still many possibilities of rewrites. Such rewrites had taken place during the filming of "Force Awakens."

BGR reported that the release date for "Star Wars 8" has been pushed to December 2017 from its initial premiere date of May 2017.

According to CNN, the principal photography of "Star Wars 8" shall begin in London on February, although some shots were already taken in Ireland's Skellig Island.
