The sweepstake for Atlanta Hawks' Jeff Teague continues as the trade deadline draws near and the Dallas Mavericks appear to be one of the possible landing spots for the star point guard, according to the latest NBA trade scenario.

The Hawks sparked the rumor mill around the league after Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports revealed on Twitter last month that Atlanta is "discussing" trade deals for Teague.

According to ESPN's Chris Boussard, the Hawks are not directly shopping Teague, but the team is listening to offers, believing they could get quality assets in return.

The 6-foot-2 point guard has been linked to teams like the New York Knicks and Utah Jazz, but according to Tom West of Fansided, the Mavs could be a possible fit for Teague.

Teague is averaging 15.1 points and 5.4 assists per game, but he has failed to carry his breakout performance from last season that earned him an All-Star appearance. But playing for a team like the Mavs, Teague's production would serve as a huge boost for Dallas' bid in the postseason.

"The problem for the Mavericks is finding a deal good enough to entice the Hawks," West wrote.

"If they want to take 2016-17 as a year to really compete with the top teams in the West and gather some key pieces as Dirk nears retirement, a point guard upgrade is a good place to start."

However, West also noted that it would be hard for the Mavs to orchestrate such deal with the Hawks, with Dallas having very limited assets.

But one possible trade scenario West pointed out is sending Deron Williams and Justin Anderson to the Hawks for Teague, which succeeds ESPN's trade machine.

Whether the Hawks view it as an intriguing package remains unknown, but sending Williams would give the Hawks a quality backup PG, while Anderson provides the team with another perimeter shooting.

As for the Mavs, Teague will surely have the starting role if he moves to Dallas and would provide the team with athleticism at the point guard spot.

West did mention that the trade scenario is "mainly for the sake of being ambitious," but the trading season is all about surprise, making this idea still a possibility.
