And when the next Nexus flagships are finally revealed, the minimum expectations listed below should mostly check in:

One tablet and two smartphones

Speculations come out early that after two years of hiatus, Google plans to bring back its 7-inch tablet that likely will be called the Nexus 7 2016. And to complete the lineup, two smartphones are set to impress the Android crowd - a 5.inch flavor that will replace the Nexus 5X and a 5.5-inch edition that obviously is the sequel to the Nexus 6P.

Report have indicated that Google will be deeply involved in the manufacturing process of its Nexus 2016 project with the goal of assembling Android kits that can topple Apple's iPhone and iPad.

Premium ever

And if the Nexus 6P is of any indication, Android fans can expect that the Nexus 2016 will stun in build, design, specifications and features. The Pure Android DNA will become synonymous to premium devices that users to pull out and flash.

Partners or contractors

The Information has reported that in building the upcoming Nexuses, Google will follow the route taken by Apple - contracting manufacturing partners but complete dictating on how the gadgets will come out.

Huawei is said to be assured of a slot, taking charge of putting together a vanilla Android slate that could convince tablet shoppers to look beyond the Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab. HTC appears a shoo-in to supply the two phones mentioned above but Android fans impressed with the works turned by LG and Huawei last year are not discounting the possibility of seeing improved versions of the Nexus 6P and 5X.

Hardware bumps

And most of these lined up devices will likely be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 with minimum RAM provision of 4GB. The Nexus camera system is also anticipated to get a significant boost that would match the rumored 12-megapixel shooters of both the iPhone 6S and Galaxy S7, which will be paired with a 5MP front camera.

With the same package, Nexus fans hoping to see enhancements such as optical image stabilization that will be implemented both in hardware and software aspects.

Release date and the new Android

Like in the past batches, the Nexus 2016 will again showcase the new things that Google has cooked up with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow. And the devices will be the first to get a taste of the upgraded mobile operating system that is known for now as Android N.

Debut moment for the new OS is at the same time with that of the Nexus 2016 release date, which could happen as early as September of the same year.
