Ringing Bells, an Indian tech company, launched the world's cheapest Android smartphone at an event in New Delhi on Wednesday. The new smartphone called Freedom 251 is amazingly affordable and can be bought for just $3.67 (INR 251).

Freedom 251 is available for pre-order on the company's official website from Thursday. Earlier, it was expected that the phone will cost $7.30 (INR 500), but eventually the manufacturer is offering the smartphone at half that price, India Today reported.

The front design of Freedom 251 bears a close resemblance with the iPhone. In fact, its design is somewhat better compared to the budget smartphones offered by several other manufacturers. The device comes in a plastic chassis, but the build quality seems to be good compared to its price. The Indian flag is imprinted on the rear of the smartphone. The device is very compact, lightweight and fits well in the hand.

In terms of specs, Freedom 251 sports a 4-inch IPS display rendering a 960x540 pixels resolution. The smartphone packs a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, coupled with 1GB RAM and 8GB of native storage, which can be expanded via a microSD card slot. The battery of the smartphone has a 1,450mAh capacity.

The primary rear camera of Freedom 251 is a 3.2-megapixel shooter wit auto-focus and LED flash, while the front-facing camera is a 0.3-megapixel snapper. So, potential buyers should not expect much from the front camera of the phone. Incredible it may seem, but the world's cheapest smartphone offers dual SIM and supports 3G, WiFi and Blue Tooth connectivity, according to The Times of India.

As far as the software of Freedom 251 is concerned, it runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. In addition, the device comes with a number of pre-installed apps. Apart from the Google suite of apps including YouTube and the Play Store, Freedom 251 is also preloaded with WhatsApp and a few apps from the Indian government. These apps include the Swachch Bharat app as well as a Women Safety app.

The device comes with a 1-year warranty for the phone and offer more than 650 service centers across the country.

Freedom 251 is not the first smartphone launched by Ringing Bells, which earlier rolled out a phone dubbed as the Smart 101. The previous phone from the company is also an Android device supporting 4G networks.
