The Galaxy S7 has been made official and with the new Android flagship, Samsung has unloaded fresh feature upgrades not found on the competition. Early reviews indicate that any of the S7 and S7 Edge would easily claim the top smartphone title this 2016 but the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are still to come out. The game is far from over.
For certain, Apple is unwilling to surrender its lordship over the smartphone market and in order to do so it wouldn't hurt releasing the next iPhone with features that are similar to those unpacked by Samsung with the Galaxy S7. Some of them are listed below:
AMOLED display
Both the S7 and S7 Edge boast of 2K display screen that got even more impressive with eye-popping render of AMOLED display technology, which expert said is just way ahead of the once industry leading Retina in the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.
Rumors say that in time for the new iPhone, AMOLED will be part of the menu and with Samsung showcasing how cool the display is Apple might just oblige.
Always-on display and real-time updates
With AMOLED too, the Galaxy S7 delivers the Always-on feature that keeps the screen active at all times with information on weather, time and calendar updates flashing in real-time. No doubt this is a feature that the iPhone crowd would not mind having.
Killer camera system
The smartphone camera war is exclusive between Apple and Samsung. Last year, it was a close battle but the Galaxy maker is said to break away with the GS7 shooter thanks to four key improvements - a f/1.7 aperture, super snappy auto-focus, bigger pixels at 1.4 micron and a dual-pixel technology that the South Korean tech giant sourced from Canon.
It appears that Apple has a lot of reworking to do before finalizing the iPhone 7 if the company hopes to keep its status as the best camera phone around.
Longer battery life
Samsung has made clear that with the Galaxy S7, becoming the slimmest device is out of the question. What is more important is keeping the battery meter of the handset from dipping for as long as possible. Samsung claims that users can have 10 hours plus of movie time on the GS7 and the device will not die out, which is not the case for the super-thin iPhone 6S but Apple can change for the iPhone 7.
Fast and wireless charging
The Galaxy S7 unboxed with a fast charging feature that users can activate and deactivate anytime plus built-in wireless charging that can also be accelerated. None of these are found in the iPhone 6S, which Apple can surely remedy with the iPhone 7 launch.
Optimized for virtual reality
To stress that the Galaxy S7 is optimized for virtual reality and that the feature will be central to the company, Samsung has invited no less than Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg to grace the feature unveiling. There are rumors too that Google will highlight VR with the upcoming Android version and the Nexus 2016 family.
Apple would be wise to include some form of a VR function with the iPhone 7 in keeping with the flagship's status as always forward-looking.
Memory bumps
Out of the box, the Galaxy S7 starts with the combo of 32GB of internal memory and 4GB of RAM provision that clearly overwhelms the 16GB/2GB pack that came with the iPhone 6S. Issuing the iPhone 7 with 32GB of built-in space and at least 3GB of RAM will surely come as a delight to millions of Apple fans.
Protection from dust and water
The Galaxy S7 will rollout packing an IP68 rating that indicates protection from dust and up to 30 minutes of water submersion, which for sure Apple can easily outmatch with the iPhone 7 release date later this 2016.
